Will This Shift Knob Work With My Reverse Lockout?
Share
A reverse lockout is one of the more common reasons someone hesitates before buying an aftermarket shift knob. Here's what it actually involves.
What is a reverse lockout?
It's a collar underneath the shift knob that you have to physically lift (or on some cars, push down) before the shifter will go into reverse — a mechanical safeguard against reverse being engaged by accident.
What makes a shift knob compatible with one?
The knob needs an opening in its base sized so the lockout collar can slide up (or down) freely inside it as you operate it. A knob without that clearance simply won't let the collar move.
Will a Mr Grip knob work with mine?
Most lift-collar and push-down reverse systems are supported. Send us your car's details before ordering and we'll confirm — or tell you honestly before you buy if it won't work.
One thing worth knowing
A taller knob can make the collar a little harder to reach one-handed than a stock-height knob, simply because your grip sits higher up. Worth factoring in if you're deciding between our sizes and you use the lockout often.
